What to expect from Horizon: Zero Dawn – The Frozen Wilds

Last week at E3 2017, we got our first look at Horizon: Zero Dawn’s DLC, The Frozen Wilds.

For those who have yet to experience Guerrilla’s open world masterpiece, I’d steer clear from this article > pick up a copy of Horizon: Zero Dawn > block out a week from your calendar 😉

Let’s take a look at everything we know about Aloy’s next adventure.

PlayStation’s Sid Shuman sat down with Herman Hulst (Managing Director, Guerrilla Games) to find out a bit more about Aloy’s next adventure and what to expect from the frozen wasteland.

“It’s very chunky. We start with a new territory, a new realm. We go across the northern mountain range into the territory of the Banuk, the tribe’s people…”

“…they are very hearty, they have to be. They live in these wild lands that are so cold and it’s so hard to survive there. It’s very beefy.”

Trying not to spoil too much, the Banuk are a nomadic tribe’s people that Aloy encounters along her journey. They live as one with the machines but due to the events in the campaign, this becomes a challenge.

During my 80+ hour stint with Aloy, I became fascinated by the tribe and yet we didn’t dive too deep into their culture and were left with a lot of questions;

  • How did their tribe begin?
  • How have they survived this long?
  • How has their tribe evolved?
  • Why do they feel isolated from other towns and cities?
  • Who do they worship?

Let’s hope we get these answers soon.

“There will be plenty of new stuff in there. It’s obviously going to be exploring their culture, new challenges, new quests and settlements for Aloy to pick up. There will be new weapons… There’s a lot of new stuff.”

It seems that not only will we be getting a new story campaign but we’ll also be expanding that huge map!

It’s nuts to think that the world could get any larger and more beautiful, but somehow, the team at Guerrilla are going to show us again, how it’s done.

Specializing in long treks from one end to the other, their quest lines force you to explore. Whether you do this on the back of a Strider or on foot, It’s one of the best experiences in video games right now and I’m itching to get on the trail again.

Check out the full discussion with Herman below.

Sony recently announced that 3.4 million copies of Horizon: Zero Dawn had been sold and it looks like this is on track to become PlayStation’s next big franchise. Congrats Guerrilla 👏👏👏

What are you hoping for in this release? Let me know in the comments.

Horizon: Zero Dawn – The Frozen Wilds is due to be released Fall 2017.
